The Mossy Carpet at Sideshore Community Hub, Exmouth
Thank you to Sideshore Community Hub for hosting The Mossy Carpet and South East Devon Wildlife on Tuesday 20 Augustt 2024.
The Sideshore Community Hub is situated on Exmouth Seafront and is a perfect location for community environmental events. What a view of the beach!
Despite the blustery weather we welcomed our first visitors as soon as the doors opened. We had delighted children learning to make their first ever pom pom, as well as those with experience! We also had a youngster who taught the volunteers how to finger knit, he was a natural teacher and was chuffed that his work was added to The Mossy Carpet. We shared mossy facts and explained what The Mossy Carpet represents.
We would estimate approximately 40 visitors during the day.
The Mossy Carpet was the perfect companion to the South East Devon Wildlife Team. The SED Wildlife team were on hand to talk about all things nature, local walking routes, to sharing the Pebblebed Dog Code and offering children's activities. Children were invited to make a bat or create a Nightjar and its nest. Engaging children and their carers in these activities allows for the SED Wildlife team to spread important messages such as sticking to the paths to avoid disturbance to ground nesting birds.
