A new skill: Fusion360 certified
The Art and Energy team love to learn new skills and add techniques to our creative portfolios. Art and Energy’s Jenny had dipped her toe into the world of Computer Aided Design (CAD) a few times, so leapt at the chance to attend a short course in Fusion360 at Arts University Plymouth’s Fab Lab.
The evening course was part of the Smart Citizen’s programme (more details below), it ran over 6 Wednesday evenings with an optional exam during the final session. Initially Jenny didn’t think she would be ready for the exam, but with fantastic teaching from tutor Ben, she passed with flying colours :-)
“Before the evening course I had used Fusion360 to create the designs for our laser cut solar houses… I could see the potential of the software for further projects, but I was really muddling my way through which meant I made lots of mistakes, and found the process long and frustrating.
Now I feel much more confident. This week, in just a couple of hours, I was able to use Fusion360 to create a new design for a laser cut kit which we hope to use in an upcoming project.
I thoroughly recommend signing up for one of the Smart Citizen workshops. The Fab Lab team are brilliant, patiently introducing new technology and finding ways to support creativity.”
The Smart Citizens Programme (SCP) is part of the iMayflower project and has been supported by The Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport who fund the Cultural Development Fund which is administered by Arts Council England. Working with citizens, communities and businesses in Plymouth and the region to provide access to digital fabrication facilities, training in digital design and manufacturing and support with sustainable entrepreneurship.
