The Mossy Carpet workshops with the Diocese of Exeter for the British Science Festival

  • The Old Deanery, The Cloisters Exeter, England, EX1 1HS United Kingdom (map)

The climate emergency is the giant of our times and when we look to nature, we can find hope and new ideas. Art and Energy and the Diocese of Exeter bring you The Mossy Carpet – creative workshops for those wishing to consider how we can collaborate with nature for a brighter greener future.

Friday 8th September 2023 - we have three workshops available:

11:00am - 1pm

2.30-4.30pm

5:50 – 7:30pm

All workshops will take place at The Old Deanery, Exeter.

Join the Art and Energy Collective in our ambitious and impressive new artwork The Mossy Carpet which will bring together thousands of people through creativity in action for our world!

These 2 hour workshops are for anyone who is curious and is suitable for all ages and abilities.

Come along to the Old Deanery in Exeter and you will be introduced to mosses and the vital role they play, burying carbon underground, purifying air, reducing flooding and increasing biodiversity.

We will discover truly wild places on our doorstep and explore how we can all 'be more moss' taking tiny actions together to change our climate.

We will make textile tufts from upcycled materials to add to the ever growing carpet to create a vibrant and striking artwork together.

You can 'tell the tardigrade' what tiny actions you are taking for a brighter greener future in order to share ideas and inspiration. These audio messages will be incorporated into the carpet and will play when people stroke the carpet. #tellthetardigrade

We will explore the biblical perspectives on creation care and why we need to act on climate.

Decide how you would like to involve others in your church/community with this exciting and playful project.

2025 marks 5 years until we must meet the UN's Sustainable Development Goals. In the lead up to this important moment in time, this epic artwork will be displayed in prestigious venues to harness hope, support behaviour change and overcome the paralysis of eco-anxiety.

The Mossy Carpet will be displayed at The Wild About Devon Awards in October and also at The Theatre Royal in Plymouth – perhaps you will be able to help us decide where it should go next!
